Karen Murphy Retires from NSW Side

Karen Murphy AM has called time on her representative career with New South Wales. Murphy announced on Tuesday that she has played her last game with the Blues and will now look forward to the new challenges she faces as Bowls Australia’s National Assistant Coach.

As a player, Murphy’s list of records and achievements has no equal. Since her debut in 1996, she has represented New South Wales over 300 times and has lifted the Marj Morris Trophy on no less than ten occasions.

Yet, while this list of achievements is impressive, those who have been fortunate enough to play alongside ‘Kaz’ over the years will always talk of her tenacity, teamwork and will to win as her best attributes. New South Wales teammate Beth Quinlan had this to say about Karen’s career:

“Karen has represented NSW longer than any other player and is much respected by all she has played with and against.

She is acknowledged as the ‘captain’ of the side and has led us to many victories over the years. The NSW Women’s side will miss her from their ranks, and it will be hard to replace a player of her ability and her contribution to the side.”

Murphy will retire as New South Wales’ most capped female player in history, and one of the best to ever play the game.
