Vale Gladys Barnes
Bowls NSW is saddened to hear of the passing of Gladys Barnes, a dedicated bowler and administrator, and an icon of the women’s bowling community within New South Wales.
Gladys joined Greenlees Park Bowling Club in 1991, and throughout her time amassed over 30 Club and District titles. Off the green, Gladys held numerous official positions within Greenlees Park Bowling Club, including Club President, Secretary and Treasurer, for a combined 30+ years.
Gladys’ contributions to bowls extended beyond her club, serving as Macquarie District Delegate, Chair of Match, President of the Women’s Past Presidents Association, Secretary of the Men’s Past Presidents Association and as Hon. Secretary of the NSW Women’s Bowl for Others.
In her later years, Gladys could still be seen either out on the greens or around the club helping out her fellow members. Gladys’ legacy on the sport cannot be understated, with so many members within the bowls community positively influenced by her honesty, passion and kindness.
