KENO NSW Senior Blues v Victoria

by Billy Johnson

The KENO NSW Senior Blues Men’s and Women’s Sides have both battled out a tough 3 Test Series against Victoria.

In the Men’s Series, NSW overcame a heavy 29-shot First Test defeat to clinch the Second Test by a single shot over their Victorian opposition. Not only was the overall scoreboard tight, each of the three rinks were decided by a margin of two shots or fewer. The narrow win meant the Third Test would decide the series winner. Steadily increasing in confidence, the Men’s Senior Blues were solid on the way to a 14 shot victory, courtesy of rink wins by Tony Shoebridge and Peter Taylor’s rinks. The win secured the Senior Men the series and bragging rights as they head into the Australian Senior Sides Championship in October this year.

The Women’s Senior Blues followed a similar pattern to the Men in the first two Tests, losing the First Test to Victoria by 7 shots before bouncing back emphatically to claim a 68-43 win in the Second Test and send the series to a decider. Special mention must go to the rink of Pamela Willetts, Jocilin Hayman, Christine Myers and Carolyn Glen who produced a 27-9 rink win in the Second Test. Needing a win in the Third Test, the Women’s Senior Blues came out firing, but Victoria were also up for the fight. Going toe-to-toe the Test ended in a draw, meaning the series was tied and Victoria, having won the previous year, retained the shield. Agonisingly close for our Women’s Senior Blues who played exceptionally well, and will no doubt be ready for the Australian Senior Sides Championship come October.
