Inter Schools Challenge Going from Strength to Strength

by Billy Johnson

The Bowls NSW Inter Schools Challenge continues to bring students to the greens, letting them compete for the chance to make the State Finals and teaching them the basics of lawn bowls along the way.

Over the last two weeks, three events have been held in the Greater Sydney Region at Cabramatta, Chatswood and Gymea Bowling Clubs. Bowls Australia RBM Darren Morrison helped oversee all three qualifying events and was impressed with the quality of bowls on display. “Twenty teams of triples from All Saints College took to the greens at Cabramatta, with all students going through programs at Cabra Bowls. Considering how many of these students were new to bowls, it was fantastic to see so many great bowls played throughout the day.”

It was a similar story at Gymea Bowling Club and Chatswood Bowling Club, with each qualifying day hosting four local teams. The Chatswood Bowling Club must be congratulated for how they have coached the students, as noted by Darren Morrison. “The students knew how to play in each position and knew how to score and measure. With the kids only having three lessons before the competition, they were very advanced in playing the game. Chatswood also went out of their way to provide trophies for the winning team.”

Congratulations to all teams who participated, and in particular those who have qualified for the High Schools Challenge State Finals! Want to learn more about the Bowls NSW Inter Schools Challenge? Click here for more information.
