Merimbula Dolphins and Taren Point Scorchers Join The TAB Platinum Pennant Season IV

Bowls NSW is pleased to announce the Merimbula Dolphins and Taren Point Scorchers will join the TAB Platinum Pennant for Season IV in 2027.

Following a competitive expression of interest process, the two clubs have secured places in the 12-team competition.

Merimbula will become the first regional team to enter the TAB Platinum Pennant, extending the competition into the South East Region and providing another opportunity to showcase elite bowls across regional New South Wales.

Merimbula Bowls Development Officer Michael Wilks said the club’s inclusion will create plenty of excitement throughout their club.

“Our inclusion in Season IV of the Bowls NSW TAB Platinum Pennant will create a real buzz through the bowls community down here on the Sapphire Coast.

“We’re extremely excited for the opportunity to showcase the strong culture our club has built, along with offering our world-class facilities to those fortunate enough to visit us.

The regional areas of New South Wales have always been a competitive force across the pennant format and our Merimbula Dolphins can’t wait to fly that flag in this elite competition.”

For Taren Point, Season IV marks a return to familiar territory. The Scorchers were one of the original 12 clubs to compete in the inaugural TAB Platinum Pennant and featured across the opening two seasons.

Taren Point Bowls Manager and Head Coach Ray Pearse said the club was excited to be returning to the competition.

“Taren Point Bowling Club is thrilled to have been accepted back into the TAB Platinum Pennant competition for 2027.

“Competing in elite events on the bowls calendar is an important part of our club’s vision and long-term direction.

“Our return to the TAB Platinum Pennant provides our players with the opportunity to test themselves against the strongest clubs and players.

“We look forward to representing Taren Point once again at the highest level of pennant.”

There will also be changes to the existing competition line-up ahead of Season IV.

Engadine, who finished 12th in Season III, will leave the competition, while 11th-placed East Maitland will retain their place following Belrose Bulls’ decision not to return next season.

Bowls NSW would like to thank both Engadine and Belrose for their commitment to the TAB Platinum Pennant. Both clubs have been part of the competition since its inaugural season and have played an important role in helping establish and grow the elite competition over its first three years.

Bowls NSW CEO Tim Rowe said the addition of Merimbula and the return of Taren Point reflected the continued strength and growth of the competition.

“The TAB Platinum Pennant continues to build momentum each season and we’re delighted to welcome these two powerhouse Clubs into what is set to be a thrilling Season IV in 2027.

“Merimbula’s inclusion is a great opportunity to broaden the TAB Platinum Pennant’s reach, showcase the strength of regional bowls and give players from the area the chance to compete in the most elite competition in the country, if not the world.

“Taren Point featured in the first two seasons of Platinum Pennant, and it will be great to welcome the Scorchers back to the competition for Season IV.

“We’ve seen a different club win the title in each of the first three seasons, which only highlights the quality of players and the level of competitiveness that exists within the TAB Platinum Pennant. We have big plans for innovation for the 2027 season, and we look forward to showcasing this for our members and across a truly global audience.”

Season IV of the TAB Platinum Pennant will begin on 26 February 2027, with 11 rounds of competition leading into the Finals Series on 17–18 April.

A full Season IV draw will be released in the coming weeks, along with further details on the host venues for Magic Round and the Finals Series.
