Mr Robert Connors OAM: Honoured for a Lifetime of Service to Lawn Bowls
Bowls NSW extends congratulations to Mr Robert Connors, who has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the King’s Birthday Honours on 9 June 2025, for his outstanding service to lawn bowls.
A proud member of the Forestville Sub-Branch of the Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL), Mr Connors has dedicated more than five decades to both bowls and community sport. His extensive contributions to the Forestville RSL Bowls Club include roles as Senior Vice President, President, Bowls Secretary, and long-time delegate. In recognition of his commitment, he was made a Life Member in 1984.
Mr. Connors has also played a leading role in the broader bowls community, including serving as State Vice President for Metro in the NSW RSL Lawn Bowls Association since 2017 and as President of the Northern Beaches Zone 4 RSL Bowls since 2014. He has held many other leadership positions over the years and has been instrumental in organising inter-club competitions and supporting club events.
A talented player as well as a dedicated volunteer, Mr Connors has claimed numerous championship titles across singles, pairs, triples and fours events. He represented New South Wales in 1999 and was named the NSW Northern District Association Singles Champion and NSW Zone 9 Association Singles Champion in 1998.
Beyond the green, Mr Connors has supported Legacy fundraising initiatives, helped organise social activities for the RSL, and taken on travel officer roles to ensure bowlers could compete and connect across the state.
This well-deserved honour reflects the lifelong passion, skill and generosity Mr Connors has brought to our sport and to his local community.
Bowls NSW congratulates Mr Robert Connors OAM on this recognition and thanks him for his continued dedication to lawn bowls.
