Tuncurry Beach Crowned Over40’s Pairs State Champions at Yamba
Daniel Jessup and Craig Donaldson from Tuncurry Beach took home the Over 40’s Pairs State Championship title after defeating Mona Vale’s Stuart McLeod and Adam Glew in the final. Hosted by Yamba Bowling Club, the top 32 pairs teams across the state competed across the weekend for the coveted title.
The action began with sectional play on Saturday, where teams fought to secure the top spot in their sections and advance to Sunday’s knockout rounds. Jessup and Donaldson dominated the weekend, going undefeated in their section and delivering commanding performances on Sunday. They claimed a decisive 35-6 victory over North Tamworth’s Damien Thom and Luke Russel in the quarterfinal and then bested Engadine’s Robert Johnston and Daniel Scanlan 17-4 in the semifinal, securing their place in the final.
Mona Vale’s McLeod and Glew also had an impressive run, advancing from sectional play with two wins and a draw. In a nail-biting quarterfinal against Soldier’s Point, they edged out their opponents with a one-shot win, then overcame Bomaderry’s Paul Smith and Scott Bateup 17-14 in the semifinal to earn their spot in the state final.
In the final showdown, Jessup and Donaldson proved too strong for McLeod and Glew, taking home the title with a 17-9 victory.
