Senior Inter-Zone Championship Semi-Finalists Set
The Senior Inter-Zone Championship continued today as sectional play concluded and the semi-finalists were decided.
The competition got underway on Tuesday, 28th May as sectional play unfolded at NBC Sports and Dundas Sports in the glorious sunshine. After a thrilling day of competition, teams returned on Wednesday morning for the third and final round of sectional play with hopes of progressing to the quarter-finals later in the day.
Reigning champions, Zone 15 (Central Coast), topped their section with two wins and a draw, securing a place in the quarter-finals against Zone 1 (Far North Coast). Demonstrating their dominance, Zone 15 triumphed with a decisive 68-41 victory.
The other quarter-finals were more closely contested, with only seven shots or fewer separating the sides. Zone 2 (Newcastle) maintained their unbeaten streak, overcoming Zone 8 (South-Western NSW) 61-56 in what was a thrilling match.
In a hotly contested clash, Zone 16 (Illawarra) faced off against Zone 13 (Sydney Central & South) keeping spectators on the edge of their seats. But Zone 16 ultimately edged out their opponents with a three-shot win, finishing 49-46.
Meanwhile, Zone 9 (Sydney Northern) battled Zone 6 (Hunter) in another gripping encounter. Zone 9’s consistent performance led them to a 58-51 victory, securing their place in the semi-finals.
The semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday morning, starting at 8:30 am. In what promises to be an exciting lineup, Zone 2 will take on Zone 16, while Zone 9 and Zone 15 will go head-to-head which will be livestreamed on the Bowls NSW YouTube channel.
