by tbreuer

The 2023/24 Champion of Club Champions Singles competition began under sunny skies today, with a thrilling day of sectional play spanning five host clubs: Cabra-Vale Diggers, Cabramatta, Club Merrylands, Club Mt Lewis, and St Johns Park.

Competitors from various clubs across New South Wales demonstrated their prowess in the initial rounds.

Perennial 2023/24 State Championship winner Dawn Hayman (St Johns Park) recorded two solid victories to progress to the knockout rounds. She will be joined in the last 32 of the Women’s Singles draw by Australian Jackeroo Natasha Van Eldik (Raymond Terrace), NSW Keno Blues representatives Sarah Boddington (Forster), Kate Walker (Taren Point) and Kay Moran (Figtree).

In the Men’s Singles competition 2023/24 State Triples Jack McShane survived a final round scare to make his way through to the final 64. He will be joined in a star-studded field by David Ferguson (St Johns Park), Jason Stokes (Raymond Terrace), Jeremy Henry (Warilla), Peter Taylor (Alstonville), Scott Bateup (Bomaderry), Carl Healey (Cabramatta), as well as a host of other section winners who will be looking to get their name on the trophy.

The excitement builds as post-sectional play starts tomorrow, leading up to the Men’s and Women’s finals on Thursday, May 16th.

Bowls NSW will livestream two matches on Tuesday via our Facebook and YouTube channels from Cabra-Vale Diggers. The Women’s round of 32 featuring Louise Baldwin (Clovelly) vs Kate Walker (Taren Point) will commence at 9.15am, followed by a men’s round of 32 match at 12.45pm, with the two players to be confirmed after the morning session.
