2021 Open State Championships – Day 4 Wrap
It’s time for the semi-finals in the 2021 Reserve, Senior and Open State Pairs championships!
Despite a drizzle of rain during the day, the wet weather held off allowing play to be completed. With a slight breeze blustering around Ettalong’s four greens, teams handled the conditions beautifully across the surfaces.
In the State Pairs, Warilla duo Brendan Aquilina and Lee Stinson overcame a first round loss to Brodie Towns and Scott Thorning (Gunnedah), winning their final two matches and storming through their section with two wins +28. Waiting for them in the semi-final is Cabramatta’s Beau Prideaux and Australian Jackaroo Carl Healey, who won all three of their sectional matches.
The second semi-final will see Rod Farmer and David Hall (Park Beach) up against Jack McShane & Shawn Thompson (Merrylands) in what promises to be a quality match.
In the Reserve Pairs, it’s a family affair in one semi-final with young-gun brothers Brendan and Daniel Ford (St Johns Park) set to clash with the father-son combination of Rob and Max Gray (Belrose). Keeping with the family trend is Warilla’s Kenneth and Noel Stopher, who will play against Allan Low & Dale Jeffery (Stuarts Point).
In the Senior Pairs, Austral will play Sporties Tuncurry after both sides went through their sections undefeated, and Figtree Sports go up against Rules Club Wagga.
