Women’s State Championships – Day 3 Wrap

by Billy Johnson

Sixteen teams took to the South Tamworth greens to contest the Women’s State Triples Championship, and from the first round the quality of play across all teams was evident. The greens have been immaculate throughout the State Championships so far, allowing competitors to play all shots with confidence.

Cabramatta, Adaminaby, Harbord, Lake Cargelligo and Figtree all enjoyed comfortable first round wins in the morning, while Port City, Sawtell and West Tamworth all made it through tight matches. West Tamworth were off to a flying start against Randwick, before the Taryn Keir skipped side surged back into the game winning multiple ends in the final stages. Their run was left just a little too late however as Sherilee Stewart’s West Tamworth side held on for a 17 – 15 win.

In the quarter finals, Adaminaby continued their red hot form, overcoming Lake Cargelligo 27 – 6, and Port City proved too consistent for a valiant Harbord team, winning 19 – 14. On the live streamed rink, Cabramatta’s Mia Hotson, Jamie-Lee Worsnop and Ellen Ryan were clinical in their 20 – 9 win over Sawtell. Finally, in good news for locals, Sherilee Stewart’s West Tamworth team have won through to the semi-finals after a gruelling battle against Figtree Sports. The semi-finals begin Saturday morning and promise to be two cracking matches!
