Women’s State Pennant Finals – Day 5 Wrap

by Billy Johnson

Sectional play has been completed in the Grade 2 and Grade 4 BCiB Women’s State Pennant Finals and we are down to the semi-finals!

The weather was perfect as teams took to the greens to complete Rounds 2 and 3 of sectional play. In Grade 2, Munmorah United accounted for both Cabramatta and Engadine to win their section, with skips Connie Goddard and Gail Sheehan particularly impressive in steering their team to victory. South Tamworth have stormed through their section, winning all three games without dropping a rink, and they will be hoping to keep their red-hot form going into Wednesday. Joining these two teams in the semi-finals are Tuncurry Beach and Bomaderry who also won through their sections undefeated.

In Grade 4, Yamba have qualified through Section 1 despite losing their last round against Bomaderry, their perfect 10 points from the first two rounds virtually guaranteeing them a spot in the semi-finals. Ingleburn, Figtree Sports and Tathra Beach all went through their sections undefeated, overcoming some tough opposition in the process.

A special mention must go to the Delungra Grade 4 side from northern NSW, who had all eight of their women’s club bowling members participate in order to take part in the finals. They even had a Tuncurry-Forster Sports local act as their team manager! The side played admirably, and did their club and their town proud.

Wednesday morning will see the semi-finals commence in Grade 2 and Grade 4, and this is how the teams match up:

Grade 2

Tuncurry Beach v Munmorah United (Negus v Sheehan rink to be live streamed)

South Tamworth v Bomaderry

Grade 4

Yamba v Ingleburn

Figtree Sports v Tathra
