by mtaylor

The Inter-Zone Sides Championship will enter a shootout for progression to the knockout stage after an eventful opening day of play at Tamworth.

Section 1 at South Tamworth

Illawarra Zone 16 has guaranteed their place in the knock-out stage with two strong, 3 rinks to 0 victories. They opened with a 61-34 win over North Coast Zone 14 and then continued the momentum in the afternoon with a 79-34 drubbing of Mid-Western NSW Zone 4.

Mid-Western NSW sits in second place, trailed by North Coast. The two clash in Round 3 and the winner will take second place and move to the next stage.

Manning (Zone 11) has two losses and their campaign will end with round 3

Section 2 at South Tamworth

Newcastle Zone 2 sits at the top of the table as the only undefeated side and will qualify for the Quarter-Finals. They opened their campaign with a win over North West Zone 3 and then toppled the highly fancied Sydney South West Zone 12.

Sydney South West opened their campaign with a hard-fought victory over far North Coast (Zone 1), despite far North Coast winning two of the three rinks.

North Western NSW recovered to claim a round 2 victory over Far North Coast, setting up a fascinating Round 3 clash with Sydney South West with the winner to claim progression to the knock-out stage.

Section 3 at West Tamworth

Sydney Central & Southern (Zone 13) have booked their place in the Quarter-Finals. They won both of their matches. They won one rink and drew another in a narrow win over South Western NSW (Zone 8) .

South East NSW (Zone 7) sits in second with one win and one loss. They will progress if they win one rink against Sydney Central & Southern

South West NSW (Zone 8) can progress if they win all three rinks over Central Coast (Zone 15) and Zone 7 lose all rinks to Zone 13.

Section 4 at Tamworth City

Sydney Northern (Zone 9) heads the table slightly ahead of Hunter (Zone 6). Both recorded 1 win and 1 draw and are narrowly ahead of Greater Western Sydney (Zone 5) who has recorded 1 win.  Sydney Northern takes on Greater Western Sydney and the winner will progress. Hunter will ensure their passage if they beat winless Sydney North West (Zone 10) but will proceed if Sydney Northern beat Greater Western Sydney.

Play in Round 3 gets under way at the three venues at 9AM and the Quarter Finals will all be played at South Tamworth BC from (approximately) 1PM.
