The COVID delayed 2020 NSW State Pairs Championships will see their finals played at Ettalong Bowling Club tomorrow (17 Feb).

In the State (Open) Pairs the final will witness Ballina’s Neil Burgess and Alf Boston  taking on Warilla’s Jeremy Henry and Aaron Teys. Both teams progressed after thrilling last end semi-final victories.

Boston converted with the final bowl to ensure a 16-14 victory over Simon Mitchell and Michael Cronin (Maitland City).

Warilla edged out Jay Porter and Ray Pearse (Cabramatta). Trailing by 3 going into the last end, Pearse played a conversion to hold the shots needed to snatch victory with his second last bowl before Teys had the answer with his last, converting to be down 2 down. Pearse went within a whisker of adding an extra shot, but the Gorilla’s held on to win 19-18.

In the State Senior Pairs the thrilling finishes continued, with Wayne Marsh and Sam Laguzza (Charlestown) prevailing after an umpires measure in an extra end (after scores were locked at 18-18 after the regulation 21 ends) over George Bakulic and Julio Posadas (St Johns Park).

Peter Taylor (Westport), who last week won the State Champion of Club Champions Singles, continued his great form, partnering with Greg Brims to beat Greg Smith and Ken Snowdon (Merimbula) in the other Semi-Final.

Father and Son combination Paul and Ian Norman (Cabra Vale Diggers) qualified for the State President’s Reserve Pairs final after a convincing victory over Gary Manning and Peter McDonald (Wauchope).  They will take on Steve Hill and Peter McDermott (Pittwater Memorial) who beat Phil Bartlett and James Boyle (Corrimal) in their semi-final.

Play in the pairs finals will get under way from 9AM (Wed 17 Feb) at Ettalong Bowling Club
